Breed specific hand stripping is a specialist technique that needs to be done correctly to preserve the harsh wire texture and natural color. This needs to be done on regular basis to maintain a healthy rolled coat year round. 

When left for long periods between hand stripping the coat becomes "Blown"  meaning there's no layers of coat to work on and has to be stripped down to skin which can make the dog look bald in areas.
